Scorpion VX-35 Miramar Helmet Review

Scorpion VX-35 Miramar Helmet

“Get over here!!!” Hah! Nostalgia alert! But that’s how anyone from the 90’s will react when they hear Scorpion first. When you take a look at the mouthpiece of this helmet, you immediately relate the outline to the iconic assassin mask, especially the chin vent area. It is almost like paying a tribute to the NetherRealm assassin in yellow.

The VX-35 is essentially a dirt helmet, which means it is expected to be on the extreme end of doing what it does, while soaking in dust and mud. Check price here.

This is a revamped effort from Scorpion that improves on the previous VX-34 which was already a successor to the VX-24. The progressive improvements come in the form of increased ventilation, re-designed peak, visor-extender or ‘peak extender’ and a quick-removeable mouth-piece unit. Despite being an open helmet there are extra vents and an upgraded scoop.

Starting from the VX-34, Scorpion has changed certification standard to DOT and ECE instead of Snell to keep it in line with the budget of the intended market segment.

So let’s take a look at how this dirt helmet ‘assassinates’ its way through its competition!

What Would You Love?

Upgrades, quite obviously. Aerodynamics is the thing and this upgrade is no exception. The redesigned peak has cutaways to reduce the amount of drag or lift while you are off-roading at higher speeds.

The ridges at the side and goggle straps allow for wearing any eye protection you manage to get your hands on.
The peak extender has been added to reduce the intake of the dirt and mud during extreme riding conditions and is a worthy addition to the already improved peak.

VX-34 already made it easy to remove the mouthpiece for cleaning, but in the VX-35, you can actually remove the entire chin area and get access to the foam which can be rinsed off of mud and dust.

Top Features to Look Out For

Apart from the already remarkable improvements, here is what the VX-35 has to astonish you.

Shell

Polycarbonate material and aerodynamic shape make this dirt helmet an instant hit with an approximate weight of 3 pounds. The fitting is an intermediate oval, so it is on the wider side, considering the fact that you will be off-roading all the time instead of ripping your bike on the tarmac. So most people should be able to wear it unless you have an unusually wide or narrow head.

Visors

The helmet features an aero-tuned visor, which is the peak that rests at the top of the helmet.

The redesigned peak not only looks stylish, but also has extra cutaways for reducing linear drag. It is obviously removable and adjustable. There is also a plastic screw in the middle, hidden under the peak to adjust the tightening of the peak in a particular position. However, this visor has been designed to break off if you fall face first on the ground instead of digging in the dirt to prevent a neck-snap.

The additional ‘peak-extender’ is provided to prevent extra dirt or mud to leak into your face when you are going full-cover.

Ventilation

Scorpion has really advanced its efforts in providing better ventilation over the series. You already get an open face with a dirt helmet which ensures that you have a lot of air (and mud) flow.

There are five chin vents, a massive scoop over the top vent and venturi exhausts at the rear to take care of the air flow. The addition of the brow vents at the top front are an interesting feature. They are connected to three separate, wide channels on the inner lining of the helmet that run along to the back where they connect with the exhausts, just like the VX-34. The vent sizes are the regular 10 mm to have as much air getting into the helmet as possible.

Padding and Lining

Scorpion has continued with its KwikWick II comfort system which features a smooth micro fiber cushion over the cheek pads and on the inner comfort liner. All three are removable, washable, anti-microbial as well as hypoallergenic. Efficient in wicking away the moisture on your skin the cheek pads also have a surprise underneath.

The AirFit Liner Inflation System consists of a 90’s style pump operated by a button that ‘inflate’ ballasts on either side. An additional button releases the air filled in those ballasts. This effectively adjusts the size of the cheek pads allowing you to press them against your own jawline as tight or loose as you see fit.

In the barrage of improvements thrown at us, Scorpion has also addressed a pressure point issue of the comfort liner that was existent in the earlier models.

Customer Reviews

Almost none of the customers that purchased this helmet has had any sort of complaint yet, which makes this an incredible buy if you are out in the dirt. Some have even crash tested it successfully.

The only minor issue we are looking at is some pressure at the back and front for people with more elongated heads than normal.

Bottom Line

The VX35 has a great, aerodynamic design and enhanced ventilation. The polycarbonate shell and a dual density EPS construction ensures a sturdy constitution that is more on the lighter side. If you are looking for a serious dirt helmet, Scorpion VX-35 Miramar is what you should be looking for.
