Scorpion EXO 410 Helmet Review

Scorpion EXO 410 Helmet

Upgrade from EXO 400. The shape of the helmet has been changed significantly. It has a more refined outline now, with swept back ridge lines on the top and top-side that give the helmet an aerodynamic profile.

The venting system has changed as well and the helmet now uses a newer, lightweight, polycarbonate material in their injection molding process.

The helmet is not just about upgrades, but features as well. It has been certified by SNELL and DOT to be safe in case of crashes, so there is more to look forward to than just improvements.

What Would You Love?

The EXO 410 comes with a shock absorbing liner on the inner side of the chin bar in the EPS. This helps the chin bars to absorb the shock in a better way when it starts to flex under accident conditions.

Scorpion’s inflatable cheek pads are becoming standardized in their helmets. These help in a snug fit and prevent any kind of wobble in the helmet if there is a crash.

The Ellip-Tec ratchet system consists of a micrometric strap for one handed operation, which is considered to be more user friendly than Double D rings.

The Top Features to Look Out For

In addition to changing the primary material in the molding process, there are quite a few things in this lid that promote a user friendly wearing experience. Take a look.

Shell

Polycarbonate shell or LG plastics means that the weight is lighter.

Two shell sizes. XS to M use the smaller shell size and the L to XXL use the larger shell size.

Intermediate neutral rounded shape, not oval or wide. The intermediate oval is not present which might irk some people and create pressure points at the brow or the back.

The standard size weighs about 3.67 pounds, which is not too light but not too heavy.

Visors

An optically correct face shield helps you see the periphery free of distortion so you can concentrate on the riding aspect.

The face shield has a spring loaded mechanism that pulls in the face shield against the gasket and is decent at keeping a lot of unwanted things out of the helmet. It is now even easier to release the face shield with Scorpion’s own Ellip Tech system. You just flip a switch and out comes the visor.

No drop down sun visor, but the EXO 410 makes up for it by increasing its safety standard.

Ventilation

The EXO 410 has two chimney vents which let in a considerable amount of air. The top vents are connected to the air channels in the EPS which reroute the air over your scalp and let it out the Venturi optimized exhaust vents.

The chin vent blows incoming air directly over the face and keeps moisture levels low with constant flow of fresh air over the inside of the face shield. This is supported by ‘brow’ vents in the EPS itself, which directs this flow into the EPS air channels for better ventilation.

The spoiler and rear exhausts have been designed keeping both aerodynamics and aesthetics in mind.

The chimney vents have a click toggle that might be problematic to operate with your gloves on.

Padding and Lining

The Kwikwick 2 fabric used is anti-microbial, removable and washable that wicks up sweat quickly.

The contoured cheek pads are less dense near the temples. It has been designed in a way so that you can wear your spectacles or glasses easily and slide the stems in without getting it stuck on the way.

There is an emergency cheek pad release system in the sub-premium category helmet for an emergency trained medic to get the helmet out. But the cheek pads need a little more effort to take out, which might be counterproductive when you are out cold.

The comfort liner is attached using plastic snap fit plugs at the back and at the brow ridge of the helmet (thank god, no Velcro). This makes it very easy to remove and install it back. On top of that it does not create any pressure points on your hairline. It has cut aways at proper locations to complement the EPS air channel ventilation scheme to blast that incoming air out and route it towards the exhaust. The air channels in the EPS are supported by large 10 mm vent holes too for optimum working at speed.

Customer Reviews

Many users are impressed with the leap in technology, comfort and the simplistic but functional mojo of the EXO 410 over older models. The complaints are mainly in the form of wind noise. But that’s a given on account of the impressive airflow that this helmet offers. Still, some others did not mind the wind noise that much, suggesting a hint of subjectivity in the hearing sense for every individual that puts this lid on.

It’s a classic case of getting one without the other.

The other major issue faced with this helmet was that it leaked a lot of water in rain.

Bottom Line

A serious upgrade from the older EXO 400, in terms of style, function, features and comfort as well, the EXO 410 is an excellent choice at this price point. If you are feeling too thrifty to pick up a premium lid, this one holds its own respectably in face of the competition and is certainly worth your attention.
