Schuberth S2 Sport Rush Helmet

Schuberth S2 Sport Rush Helmet Review

Schuberth is all about premium. And their helmets speak volumes. Flogged as a sports tourer by Schuberth, it is great for a track day as well.

Schuberth S1 owners will instantly feel at home when they get their hands on the new S2 Sport tourer helmet. As with the S1, the S2 has spent a lot of time in Schuberth’s wind tunnel to be as silent as possible while still being aerodynamic at speeds as high as 65 mph.

It is certified with ECE-R 22.05 and DOT which guarantees adherence to the standards with respect to impact absorption, FOV and visor retention.

Let’s take a tour of its most interesting features.

What Would You Love?

The S2 is about safety above all else. The helmet structure consists of a triple matrix and multi-zoned foam which is responsible for foremost stability. The enhanced density allows for a higher tolerance of drag at relatively higher speeds as well as soaking up impacts, should the worst happen. The extensive wind tunnel testing has made sure that there is enough downforce to minimize the lift at a level where the rider won’t even feel it. And the anti-roll system will make sure that the helmet does not wobble in case of a crash.

Schuberth has made their mark already, but like every other helmet they have produced, the S2 also has high vis pads on the helmet edge to make sure you are easy to spot during night rides.

In addition to the optional SRCS Bluetooth communication system, the integration of 31-inch FM and Bluetooth antennae are immensely helpful in increasing its range and reception, which make this helmet even more valuable.

Top Features to Look Out For

Schuberth do not feel like the boasting type. It feels like they let their helmets do all the talking. And protecting, of course. So let’s see what the S2 is all about.

Shell

The S2 body has been put together from a process called hot press forming. The fiber glass is actually pressed into shape at a considerably high pressure and temperature. The difference between other forms of hot press forming and this, is that Schuberth has added a special duroplastic matrix to give it that ‘extra’ edge. The insides have been put together using segmented foam to maximize the absorption of impacts.

The helmet looks absolutely elegant and smooth, and the Sport graphic is certain to catch the eye of the innocent bystander.

Compared to S1, Schuberth has toned down S2’s weight a notch at 3.38 pounds. This was a complaint about the earlier helmet and they have addressed the issue at once in this upgrade. An intermediate oval shape should enclose most heads, but Schuberth has taken their care to the next level and provided 7 different sizes that you can choose from.

Visors

Made from scratch proof polycarbonate, the clear view visors have been made from an injection molding process. Easy to remove and replace, you do not need any tools for this. Schuberth has made it easy to get that visor out. There are six tints to choose from, including a clear one. The dual-lens shield and lens comes directly from Pinlock and has excellent anti-fog qualities.

The drop-down sun visor looks very stylish and can be retracted or extended with a simple slider.

Ventilation

The S2 features a chin vent, a tactically placed roof scoop that looks quite modern. The roof vent can be open or closed with a slide at the top of the scoop even while wearing gloves. The unique thing is, that you can adjust the cowl in three positions for optimum control.

The adjustable chin vent is your primary inlet for the air flow for face shield ventilation and is capable of letting in fresh air at speeds as low as 30 mph. This airflow is deflected properly so that it does not blow in your face. The rest of the air gets sucked in from the roof scoop and is channeled down the comfort liner over your head and out the back. The rear and wing exhausts are positioned to utilize the air turbulence and get that hot air out of the helmet with ease.

Padding and Lining

The cheek pads and inner lining have been made with Coolmax ultra soft breathable material. It is extremely skin friendly and efficient in removing the moisture from your skin to the outer layer. Schuberth has also made sure to make the material hypoallergenic and antibacterial, as is expected from the maker of premium helmets.

The removal of cheek pads and the inner lining is very easy, but it is recommended by Schuberth to perform the process according to the steps given in their highly detailed user manual.

Customer Reviews

This is a popular buy among most customers, but a few of them experienced lower quality deliveries. The Schuberth customer service managed to calm them with their excellent service.

The company has hyped this helmet to be super quiet, but a few unsatisfied people have reported otherwise even while using the tabulators on the visor.

Bottom Line

The S2 is more sophisticated than other helmets in its category and quieter too; just not enough to please the nitpicky ones. But, barring the trivial noise complaints, this is a great premium quality helmet with the Schuberth brand and a 5-year warranty on top.
