Icon Alliance GT Horror Helmet

Icon Alliance GT Horror Helmet Review

Angels and Demons. Red and Blue. Rage Red and Burly Blue. When the Ghost Rider is on the street, you either ride with hellspawn or the spirit of vengeance. Let your soul choose!

The demonic graphic available in these two colors on the Icon Alliance GT Horror Helmet is sure to make you a look like a badass wherever you go, whether you can make your bike catch on fire or not. The only gripe you may find is that the demon on the graphic has less pointy teeth and the eyes do not glow in the dark (what’s up with that?). Oh well. Snatch that candy from the child regardless. You even get a stylish introduction of the helmet, complete with grim background music on their website. Go figure! Check price here.

With DOT, ECE, SAI and PSC certifications, you can imagine yourself setting everything ablaze in US, Europe, Australia as well as Japan.

What Would You Love?

This full face helmet will break hearts, but not your bank. The coolest thing about the Icon Alliance GT Helmet is the two shield two step algorithm. Instead of swapping a tinted face shield for a clear one whenever you need it, Icon has made it easier to just swap out the shields with the swipe of a lever. Scorching sun? No problem.

Looks awesome, but what about functionality? Let’s take a look.

Shell

Why does Satan need protection? Well, (s)he doesn’t, but your melon does. That is the reason Icon has had this helmet manufactured from molded polycarbonate. Lightweight and sturdy, it should be more than enough to absorb any impacts when you come crashing down from your pretense dream about the Ghost Rider.

The helmet has been tested in a wind tunnel, and the design shows it. Featuring a long oval shape, the fitting should not be a problem for most people, but it’s always better to know your head shape before ordering any helmet online.
Icon provides a total of 7 helmet sizes for maximum target customer reach. EPS sizes vary from XS to XL, while helmet sizes are from XS to 3XL. The sizing chart is there in the manual which can be downloaded from their website easily.

Visors

The two shield two step is an amazing thing for the grand tourer. It saves you from the messy situation of carrying another shield and continuously swapping in and out depending on the weather conditions. The tinted shield is actually hidden in the helmet and can be dropped down similar to an inner sun visor (which is also provided). Don’t worry though, if you don’t like the color of the inner shield, it can be replaced from Icon just as easily.

The Alliance helmets are equipped with Clear ICON ProShield which meets the VESC-8 regulations. Icon has really shown that they care about the visuals by providing the same color scheme for both the face shield and the inner sun visor. In the case of the Horror version, they have an RST red sun visor as well as a red tinted ProShield for the red graphic and the respective blue ones for the other one.

The drop shield can be removed easily enough, as demonstrated in their manual, with a snap fit mechanism.

Ventilation

Icon has a SuperVent system in their helmets that keeps your head cool even when you are imagining it ablaze. It features oversized intake ports that can force the air in at high or low speeds. The air flow can be adjusted by the vent triggers as illustrated in their manual.

The helmet has five air intakes and five exhausts, making sure you have plenty of air coming in and going out too. In addition to the mouth vent, the helmet also has vents on the chin bar and a roof vent. Air from the top is directed over the scalp on your head through the EPS liners and thrown back to be sucked out the exhaust, strategically placed below the spoiler.

Padding and Lining

HydraDry™ material on the paddings and linings extract your sweat and keep you dry while you are burning rubber out there. Designed for a snug fit, the cheek pads as well as the comfort liner are very easy to remove and wash. This is possible due to the snap fit system for both the cheek pads and the comfort liner, which also keeps them in place.

Customer Reviews

Most customers have been swayed by the coolness factor alone, both in the visuals and the cooling system of the helmet. A few of them whined about the noise and glare on the outer shield due to the inner silver drop shield, but nothing so serious to detract their buying choice. Others have crash-tested it and reported nothing but praises about how the helmet prevented any injury on top of minimizing impacts so much so that they felt like feather touches.

Bottom Line

If you are of the raging bull type and need to make your presence known for some reason, this is the helmet for you. Don’t nitpick about the noise of the air flow, because that’s not what you will be concentrating on while joyriding.
Awesome looks, amazing sturdiness, fantastic impact protection and a cool drop shield system characterize this demon. Buy this helmet and let yours out.
