Benefits

The DS X1 helmet from HJC allows you to switch from street riding to dirt racing effortlessly. If you want a helmet that you can wear both on the streets and on the trails, you will love this helmet.

The easy conversion system in the helmet is useful in changing the face shield to use the helmet with goggles. The helmet is lightweight, and it has superior aerodynamic properties that make it one of the best helmets in the class.

It is the first adventure helmet from HJC, and the company has made it possible to design a flawless helmet at its first try. It is an entry level adventure helmet that costs about $170.

Features

If you are trying to enjoy adventure riding and you don’t want to spend a lot of money on a touring helmet, the DS X1 helmet is an ideal choice. This helmet is also available with a few graphic variations that may cost you around $200.

The helmet fits intermediate oval head shapes, and it is suitable for most of the riders in the American market. The DS X1 helmet is a full-face helmet that weighs 3.5 pounds, making it one of the lightweight adventure touring helmets you can select.

Shell Construction

The DS X1 helmet is made of an advanced polycarbonate composite shell that is lightweight and resilient. The shell construction is flawless, and there is nothing more you can expect from a sub-$200 helmet.

HJC is one of the most respected brands manufacturing low-priced helmets without compromising on resilience or safety. The shell is available in two separate sizes to allow a custom fit for several riders. This choice, along with the three EPS liner sizes, ensures that you get a good fit with your helmet as long as you choose the right size.

The aerodynamic design of the shell and visor provides an excellent riding experience.

Ventilation

The DS X1 helmet has 5 intake vents and 4 exhaust vents. The chin vents can be easily adjusted with a slider that can be reached with a gloved hand. The passive vents along the side also aid in the airflow.

The chimney vents can also be opened and closed with thicker gloves. The exhaust vents pull the warm air out of the helmet efficiently. The HJC DS X1 helmet incorporates ACS (Advanced Channeling Ventilation System) that ensures front to back airflow to remove heat and humidity inside the helmet.

Interior

The helmet comes with a chin curtain that can be added if you want. The snaps of the interior liner are comfortable, and they don’t create pressure points.

Unlike other helmets, the DS X1 helmet uses a double D-ring for the interior liner. It is not hard to use, but it is just uncommon with helmets. It is, however, easier to remove the interior liner without too much of an effort.

The contoured cheek pads with super cool fabric are comfortable against the skin. The interior also includes cutouts for speakers for intercom systems. Many adventure riders and street riders alike would like to communicate with other riders. The intercom system greatly helps you in communicating with your peers while riding on the road.

The fabric liner is also removable and washable. The dual density EPS liner has airflow channels that assist in providing a good ventilation inside the helmet. The interior is made using advanced CAD technology to provide superior fit.

Face Shield System

The optically clear face shield is Pinlock ready. However, the helmet doesn’t ship with a Pinlock insert, and you have to purchase it separately. At the bottom of the face shield, a new design is incorporated to minimize the distortion.

The goggles can’t be used with the face shield. You have to remove the face shield to use the goggles. If you want to use your eyewear while wearing this helmet, you can comfortably do so.

The face shield provides a good seal against the gasket. With this helmet, you may not be able to adjust the face shield in different positions. However, for a sub-$200 helmet, you can’t expect anything more than this.

The face shield has a large eyeport and excellent goggle fit. It is one of the rare features in a helmet available for less than $200.

Safety

The DS X1 helmet comes with DOT approval, which means that it is much safer to use this helmet on the road. The helmet has DOT approval for all riding modes and so, you don’t have to worry about your safety just because you want to ride your dirt bike.

Other Factors for Consideration

The peak is one of the important features of an adventure helmet, and it changes the way you ride your bike. The peak is fitted using screws that are solid metal inside. The hard plastic peak has numerous vents to provide airflow. It only requires a few minutes of your time to remove the peak or face shield to configure your helmet in a different riding mode.

It gives a great value to your money and can be used for different ride types for years to come.
